Let the good times roll: Scholarships abound in Flagler

Local organizations continue to reward high school seniors for their hard work. Recently the the Palm Coast Arts Foundation awarded $500 Ernie Refolo Art Scholarships to graduating seniors: Jessica Insua from Flagler Palm Coast High School and Nina Eustaquio from Matanzas High School.

Also, the Flagler Woman’s Club has awarded seven local seniors with $1,000 scholarships. The club members will honor these seniors and their families at the annual Scholarship Luncheon in June.

Members will also honor our Justyn Perry, a sophomore at FPC, and his family, as well as major donors Jim Sheehan, Mike Freydl and Gerard Slovak at the luncheon.

Since the Flagler Woman’s Club was organized in 1946, it has given 95 scholarships.

Another organization, the Ivy Community Foundation Inc., in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. of Palm Coast, awarded eight scholarships to students from FPC and Matanzas. The Chi Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. has granted more than $50,000 in college scholarships to deserving high school students in the Flagler and Palm Coast areas.

Daniel Spearman, offered advice to the honorees regarding overcoming distractions and remaining focused on the mission. Spearman is a 2009 scholarship recipient, and a recent University of Florida graduate
