Deltona man killed in U.S. 1 crash
A Deltona man was killed early Saturday morning after he was ejected from the car he was a passenger in, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Christina Laming, 41, of Deltona, was driving a 1997 Toyota northbound on U.S. 1, north of Otis Stone Hunter Road, around 1:22 a.m.

Joseph Drenner, 50, in the passenger seat.

Laming drifted onto the grass median for unknown reasons and, in an attempt to regain control, she overcorrected, crossing over both northbound lanes and entered the east shoulder.

Drenner was ejected from the car and trapped under the car in standing water, the report states. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drenner was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report. Alcohol involvement and charges are pending, the report states.

Unemployment drops to 9.3%
Flagler County unemployment continues to drop, according to numbers released Friday by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

Flagler’s April jobless rate came in at 9.3% — a 0.2% drop from March and the second consecutive month it was below 10%.

Flagler County continues to own the second highest unemployment rate in the state, however. Hendry County is the highest, at 9.9%.

Statewide, unemployment stood at 7.2%, the lowest since September 2008 (7%).

Flagler’s unemployment is down nearly 2% from a year ago, when it was 11.2% in April 2012.

Clarification
The yellow light at southbound Belle Terre Parkway at Easthampton Boulevard was 4.5 seconds before red light cameras. In 2008, it was reduced to 4.3 seconds when the camera was installed. In 2010, the state standards changed, and it was extended to 4.7 seconds, where it remains.

The camera for the northbound lanes was installed in 2012. The yellow light is 4.7 seconds there, as well.
