A Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured, and an 18-year-old Matanzas High School student was arrested at 7:45 a.m. this morning following a fight in the school’s cafeteria.

School Resource Deputy John Landi had been in the cafeteria with school administrators when they observed student Allen Brown, 18, of Palm Coast, enter the cafeteria and removed his shirt.

Brown was seen by administrators then walking up to a 15-year-old male student in the cafeteria, who was sitting at a table eating breakfast. Brown then began punching the younger student repeatedly, according to a report.

School administrators and Landi separated the two students. After Landi gave clear, verbal commands to stop, Brown took a fighting stance and punched the deputy repeatedly, striking him in the face and knocking him to the ground, according to a report. The deputy then deployed his Taser, striking Brown in the left torso. The student was then secured without further incident.

All parties involved sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by Flagler County emergency personnel. Parents of both youths were notified of the incident.

Brown is being charged with battery, battery on a law enforcement officer and disruption of a school function. He is being booked in to the Flagler County Inmate Facility.
