+ Rotary Club receives award for commitment to education
During a recent awards ceremony, Dr. Tony Bennett, Florida Commissioner of Education, awarded the Rotary Club of Flagler County the Commissioner’s Business Recognition award for the club’s continuous support and commitment to education in Flagler County.

The Flagler County Education Foundation nominated the Rotary Club of Flagler County to receive this prestigious award. The only other Flagler County company recognized this year was Palm Coast Ford.

“Our members support numerous educational initiatives, such as our Princess Place mentoring program, high school athletics and have provided scholarships for many years,” said Rick Staly, club president. “Over the years, we have provided more than $200,000 in scholarships to our high school students.”

+ Doo-wop performance to raise scholarship funds
The Rotary Club of Flagler Beach and the Flagler Auditorium Arts in Education has partnered to present a scholarship fundraiser, The Legends of Doo Wop performance.

The performance will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, at the Flagler Auditorium. All ticket proceeds will contribute to scholarships for students in Flagler County’s schools.

“We continually strive to find entertaining ways to raise money for our local students,” said Kim Carney, event organizer. “And what better fun than a great performance from The Legends of Doo Wop.”

The Legends of Doo Wop features four classic doo-wop singers: Tony Passalaqua, of the Archies; Tommy Mara, of The Crests; Frank Mancuso, of The Imaginations; and Steve Horn, of The 5 Sharks.

Tickets are $29 for adults and $18 for students. Call the box office at 437-7547. Tickets may also be purchased at the door the day of the show.
