Flagler County Commission Chairman Nate McLaughlin was awarded the designation of Certified County Commissioner by the Florida Association of Counties at the Association’s annual conference.

McLaughlin, elected in 2010 to the District 4 seat on the commission, completed the course to qualify for the designation. The certification is voluntary and not a requirement to serve as a commissioner.

The coursework is spread out over a year and is designed to provide information and enhance skills important to a commissioner’s duties and responsibilities as an elected official. It includes topics such as ethics, public records and the Sunshine law, county structure and authority and county roles and responsibilities.

Lucas family travels to England for royal birth
The Lucas family, John, Susan and Andrey, of English decent, traveled to England to be on hand for the birth by the Duchess of Cambridge, of the 8-pound, 6-ounce Prince George, the future king of England.

“We were very happy our family could share this occasion with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge,” wrote John Lucas. “We wish them congratulation on the birth of their son, Prince George.”
