A Jacksonville woman who was riding a bicycle along U.S. 1 Wednesday night was fatally hit by a passing motorist.

Deborah Dunn, 63, was traveling northbound on the paved shoulder of the road at around 7 p.m., near Belle Terre Parkway. She was just ahead of a vehicle driven by Leila E. Gould, 30, of Bunnell, according to a crash report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Gould traveled out of her lane “for reasons still under investigation,” the report says, and struck the rear of Dunn’s bicycle, knocking Dunn onto the grass shoulder of the road. Dunn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charges are pending against Gould, the report says. Alchohol was not involved.
