Chad Hannum wins youth Elvis tribute competition
Palm Coast’s Chad Hannum, 12, walked away the youth winner at the eighth-annual Ted McMullen I‘ll Remember You Elvis Tribute Artist Competition. The event took place at The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak.
This win qualifies Hannum to go to Memphis in August to compete in the Images of the King Championship at the New Daisy Theater on Beale Street Aug. 11-16.

Bridge Club donates to ARC of Flagler
The Palm Coast Duplicate Bridge Club donated $1,200 to ARC of Flagler County.
The mission of ARC. Flagler County is to improve the quality of life for developmentally disabled people by providing recreational and social activities.

Family Promise collects used books and DVDs
Family Promise of Flagler County is collecting used books and DVDs for their book sale to be held March 8 and 9. Donations can be dropped off 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. any day, at the Family Promise Day Center, 1500 S. Daytona Ave., Flagler Beach.

New Jersey club installs new officers
The New Jersey Social Club of Palm Coast recently installed new officers. They are President Jim McFadden, Vice President Ed Dickel, Secratary Penni Knapp, Treasurer Pat Single and Trustees Bob Knapp, Jill Sommer and Ronnie Wilkening.
The club is comprised of former New Jersey residents who now live in Florida. It meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at The Elks Lodge.

Data Busters applications being accepted
The Northeast Florida Community Action Agency is currently accepting applications for its summer youth camp, Data Busters. It will run for six weeks over the summer break.
Two days of the week the students will be in a classroom environment learning basic computer programs. Two days of the week the students are assigned to a work site where they will be supervised and mentored to learn employment skills, while earning minimum wage. The last day of the week is reserved as a professional development day where the students will be exposed to speakers and presentations by community leaders.

Yacht Club changes watch
The Palm Coast Yacht Club installed its 2013 Officers at the annual Change of Watch ceremony. The event was organized by the Palm Coast Chapter of the International Order of the Blue Gavel, the association of past commodores.
The new officers are Commodore Mike Norris, Vice Commodore Bill Schwartz, Rear Commodore Lynn A. Student, Fleet Captain Jack Meyers, Treasurer Candyce Schmidt and Secretary Adrienne Smith.
Norris is the 30th Commodore for the Palm Coast Yacht Club. He retired after 30 years in the Army with a master’s degree Engineering.
As commodore, Norris' goal is to increase the membership of the club.


Wanted: Backyard barbecue contestants
Do you make the best barbecue?
The city of Palm Coast is looking for amateur barbecue enthusiasts for an upcoming Backyard BBQ Competition.
With a $5,000 purse, the competition will be part of the Rock N’ Rib Festival April 12 and 13. Backyard BBQ competition categories include ribs, chicken, Boston butt and “anything but.” Prizes and awards will be given in each category.
Contestants must provide their own equipment, and the city will provide water and electricity. Cooking will be done at Central Park in Town Center.
There’s room for up to 50 competitors. Application fee is $100. Applications are available at http://www.palmcoastgov.com/rocknrib.

Race of the Runways to include Just Move health and wellness initiative
The Rotary Club of Flagler Beach and the Flagler County Airport will host the Race of the Runways 8:30 a.m. Feb. 9, at the Flagler County Airport.
This event is part of the Palm Coast Race series and is co-sponsored by the Palm Coast Observer and the Flagler County Tourist Development Council.
The Rotary Club of Flagler Beach has teamed up with other health and wellness initiatives to help get people moving. People of all ages are encouraged to use this event to set a goal and just move.
There is a recommended donation of $10 for Kiddie Dashers, $20 for walkers in the 1-mile and 2-mile courses and the fully supported 5K is $25.
The funds raised from this event help support the Rotary Club of Flagler Beach projects. Some of these projects include scholarships for adults and students, Project Share, which provides holiday gifts for needy families and dictionaries for every third-grade child, Flagler County Education Foundation, world-wide polio eradication and the Youth Exchange Program.
