Following its most successful year ever, Flagler Playhouse has announced its 2013-14 Season. Touting “diversity of experience and creative vision,” the playhouse will feature six directors in its 35th season. The plays will entertain audiences with stories about characters “from the trusting child to the cynical senior; the rebellion of young adulthood to the anxiety of impending parenthood.”

“We’re very excited about our upcoming season,” said Pat Love, president of Flagler Playhouse. “We appreciate the fantastic support the community has shown us. It is only through their continued support that we are able to achieve our mission to enrich, educate and entertain the community through live theater.”

“Baby, the Musical” is the first show, opening Sept. 20. “Moon Over Buffalo” follows in November; then, it’s “Annie Jr.” in December and “On Golden Pond at the end of January and beginning of February 2014. In the spring, the playhouse will have “Sylvia” and then “Urinetown, the Musical.”

Ticket prices for musicals are $20 for adults, $15 for students. Nonmusicals cost $15/$12. To volunteer or purchase tickets, visit www.flaglerplayhouse.com.

Flagfootball4fun registration open through Sept. 8

Fast-paced football action, yes. Bone-jarring tackles, no. For some kids, it’s the perfect combination, and sign-ups are open now through Sept. 8 for Palm Coast leagues of FlagFootball4Fun.

The NFL-sanctioned, 5-on-5 flag football league is open to boys and girls, ages 5-14. Each registration fee of $99 includes one reversible NFL replica jersey, which players get to keep, and one belt and pair of flags which players will use for the entire season. No other equipment is required; cleats are optional.

“Our goal is easy: to get players enjoying the safe flag football experience each time they step on the field while being encouraged by their team and their parents,” said Reginald Grigsby, founder of FlagFootball4Fun. “If we can make it fun while keeping kids safe, then we’ve accomplished our goal.”

Register online at http://FlagFootball4Fun.com. Once teams are formed, coaches will contact players and provide a link to an online team schedule that outlines dates for games and practices. League play happens each Saturday, and most teams meet and practice once per week prior to each scheduled one-hour game times. Team sizes are kept at around 8-12 children. The season culminates in a playoff jamboree where all teams play in a single elimination playoff format.

Alligator moseys past canal home

Bernie and Deanna Kershner submitted this photo of an alligator, which swam near their home in the C-section. Bernie wrote in an email: “Deanna and I often sit on our dock … admiring the wild life. This evening we had a visitor meander by whom we have not seen before. The gator was about 4 feet long and was in no hurry as it headed for the Intracoastal. Good reason to cool off in the pool and not the canal.”
