Thirty sixth-grade girls from Rymfire Elementary attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Women in Aviation Day. Rymfire was the only Flagler County school in attendance with 15 Volusia County groups.

The program is designed to encourage young girls to consider science, math and technology career paths.

The girls had an opportunity to visit hands-on stations, including making their own lip gloss, using a flight simulator program, making flubber, designing their own airplane and operating a rivet gun.

Wadsworth Problem Solvers help to save the sea turtles
The Wadsworth Elementary Community Problem Solvers team won second place in the state competition, in the environmental category for the seat turtle project, "Watch out where ya' steppin'".

Their goal was to find ways to inform tourists about strategies to help protect sea turtle eggs and hatchlings. To that end, the students created informative flyers and placed them in many of the local hotels, including the Hilton Garden Inn, along with a comic with tips for young tourists. A QR code was placed on each flyer, so visitors with smartphones can see the team's video about protecting sea turtles.

In addition, the students raised funds to purchase 2,500 custom-designed coasters, which were placed at local restaurants such as The Funky Pelican, The Golden Lion Cafe, Houligan's and Outback.

Team members included Nicholas Sperber, Christian Graham, Tristan Carl, Gianna Ramnarine, Gianna Lazzano, Kayla Collazo, Karina Edwards, Alyssa Santore, Alexis Bell, Sydney Russell and Ryan Montgomery. The team was coached by Marilee Palot and Tom Rentas.
