Low-sugar, gluten- and chloresterol-free chocolate hits Flagler County shelves

Nature Food Chocolatier started selling its low-sugar, gluten- and cholesterol-free chocolate at distributors in and around Flagler County about two weeks ago.

The only Flagler County location where products from Nature Food is available so far is Larry’s Italian Deli at 4750 E. Moody Blvd., Bunnell. Customers can also order online at naturefoodcompany.com.

To make chocolate that is both low in sugar and without gluten or chlorestorol, owners Mario Sica and Jose Iorio use skim milk in their recipe. And, rather than using traditional sweeteners, the company uses a mixture of corn starch and stevia, a natural sweetener derived from a South American herb.

“We’ve found that people with certain conditions and people who want to eat healthier are enjoying the benefits of our chocolate,” Iorio said. “We would like everyone to be able to eat chocolate if they want to.”

Nature Food Chocolatiers can be reached at 283-4968.
