Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming has announced the Deputy of the Year award for Road Patrol has been presented to Sgt. Philip Reynolds, while Nathan Hockenberry was named the Corrections Deputy of the Year.

Fleming made the announcements during the recent awards dinner that is scheduled annually by the agency. Reynolds was presented with the Deputy George Durrance Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award, which is named in honor of the deputy who was killed in the line of duty in 1927.

Hockenberry was presented the Sheriff Hugh Drummond Award. Hockenberry has been with the Flagler County Inmate Facility since March 2010.

Reynolds is the District 2 supervisor of Charlie Squad. He joined the Sheriff’s Office in June 2000. The award recognizes the sergeant for his individual excellence, teamwork and professional service in many facets of the agency. He has gained the respect and trust of both his co-workers and the community in which he serves, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office.

The award also recognizes Reynolds for his dedication and his ability to promote “Honor, Integrity and Excellence," the core values of the Sheriff's Office.

Fleming said: “This is a man who proudly serves his community to the best of his ability.”

Hockenberry was recently appointed to a new, specialized unit in the Inmate Facility. He has assumed the responsibilities of coordinating the transportation of inmates to and from the courthouse for court appearances. The press release states that his attention to detail, along with his positive attitude, has created a teamwork mentality that has reflected in the professionalism of the Transport Unit.

“Since joining the FCIF, this corrections officer has proven to be a self-starter and an asset to the corrections staff. He is well-deserving of this award,” Fleming said.
