The Flagler Palm Coast High School drama department will open its spring musical production of “Oliver!” 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, with encore shows 7 p.m. Friday, May 18, and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, May 19.

The Saturday matinee is half price for FPC students and faculty.

“Oliver!” is a British musical based on the novel “Oliver Twist,” by Charles Dickens.

The musical is the school’s new Theater Director Kelly Nelson’s first production on the stage at the Flagler Auditorium. Both productions earlier this school year were performed in the black box.

For the final show of the year, however, Nelson wanted a chance to collaborate with the orchestra and dance departments. Children from Phoenix Academy and the children’s chorus will join the high school students for the opening song.

“This production has mild violence, but is still a very family friendly show,” Nelson said. “We use silhouettes to make it a little less scary, but as far as content, it’s very lively.”
