The National Junior Beta Club at Belle Terre Elementary School recently held its inaugural induction ceremony for more than 70 members. The club is the first of its kind in the county.

Though the National Beta Club is common among high school organizations, it is rarely implemented at the elementary level. Stephen Hinson, principal of Belle Terre Elementary, rallied for its creation since becoming principal in 2009.

“Belle Terre is an amazing school with students who excel in every aspect,” Hinson said. “One thing I want to do is honor those students in fifth and sixth grades who have achieved academic success; I also want to build upon their great character traits. Beta is a club that does just that.”
