The city of Bunnell has announced this Thursday, May 3, as Bunnell Day of Prayer.

"Since this country was founded by men who gathered in prayer for divine guidance and wisdom, prayer has been part of our nation's heritage," read a press release sent by the city. It continues: "that’s why our city invites people of all faiths, to join this event and pray for our nation and renew the faith in Bunnell."

At 1:00 p.m. many churches will be joining together in prayer at the Edward Johnson Park (behind the Historic City Hall). There will be kids’ activities, inspirational live music, and guest speakers from local Bunnell churches. The Master of Ceremony will be Pastor Sims Jones, of Alliance for Involved Ministers, and the Key Note Speaker will be Pastor Jim Riley, of Calvary Christian Center.

National Day of Prayer is held every year on the first Thursday in May. A federal law passed in 1952 marked the official start of the commemoration, but its roots date back to George Washington. Its stated intentions were to set aside "a day when adherents of all great religions could unite in prayer."
