+ Allen Whetsell to run for supervisor of elections seat
Allen D. Whetsell, general manager of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, Memorial Gardens and Crematory, announced that he is running for the office of Flagler County supervisor of elections in the Republican primary.
A resident of Flagler Beach for the past 11 years, he has been active in the Flagler County Kiwanis Club, the Flagler County Education Foundation, the governing board of Flagler Auditorium, the governing board of the Family Life Center and has been involved with both the Flagler Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates. He is also the governor-elect of the Florida District of Kiwanis International.
In a press release, Whetsell calls himself a “political newcomer,” and says he plans to “re-establish a positive working relationship with the County Commission, the other constitutional officers and the city governments in Flagler County,” if elected. “I hope to never have a hostile budget conference,” he said.
Three other Republicans have filed to run, as well: Trey Corbett, Kimble Medley and Pam Richardson. Incumbent Kimberlee Weeks has not filed as of March 22.
+ Sheriff launches Click It or Ticket
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is participating in the statewide Click It or Ticket campaign aimed at increasing public awareness for the need to wear safety belts.
The initiative began Saturday, March 17, and will end Saturday, March 31.
The value of safety belts was illustrated Friday, March 16, when two vehicles collided on Colbert Lane, in Palm Coast. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, but all passengers were wearing seatbelts, and everyone walked away from the crash.
“A safety belt can save a life,” Sheriff Donald Fleming said.
+ Little River Band headlines Rib Fest
The city of Palm Coast has announced 1970s/1980s rock group the Little River Band as this year’s featured performers at the 2012 Rock ’N’ Rib Fest, April 14, at Town Center.
Live music will be performed all day and night, including a Chicago tribute band. There will also be a kids carnival, pig racing and pig swimming, falcon attack demonstrations and food vendors.
The event will run from noon to 10 p.m., with admission set at $20 for adults and free for kids 12 and under. Free sunscreen will be given to the first 200 admissions.
