Epic Church recently partnered with the Society of St. Andrew to glean local produce that would otherwise go to waste.

A group of about 70 members traveled to Palatka to glean leftover citrus from a grove. The group delivered more than 200 dozen citrus fruits to feeding agencies and families in need, in Flagler County.

Some of the organizations that received food were the Alpha Pregnancy Center, Family Life Center, First Baptist Church of Flagler Beach, First United Methodist Church of Bunnell, Grace Community Food Pantry, Grand Oaks Nursing Home, Las Palmas nursing home, and Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church.

The Society of St. Andrew team delivered an additional trailer full of fresh citrus to feeding agencies in Jacksonville.

The Society of St. Andrew works to bridge the hunger gap between the 96 billion pounds of food wasted every year in the United States, and the nearly 35 million Americans who live in poverty. One major area of food waste in America is in farmers’ fields, where crops that don’t meet top-grade quality are left in the fields.
