Neighbor of the Week: Gary Shelton

Dr. Gary Shelton was recently named as the new medical director and the Flagler Humane Society.

Shelton currently owns and operates three veterinary clinics and is part owner of the St. Augustine Emergency Animal Care Clinic. He has been practicing veterinary medicine for more than 30 years.

A few months ago, Shelton and his team of veterinarians began performing spay/neuter surgeries at the shelter to make sure that FHS animals could be quickly adopted.

“I was overwhelmed by the number of cats and dogs that flow into the shelter daily, but more than that, I could see the amazing dedication, care and thought each animal is given by the staff and volunteers and everyone’s commitment to giving every animal a chance to find a new home,” Shelton said. “On any given day, the Shelter has over 100 dogs and close to 300 cats available for adoption. I knew that this was a bigger job than anyone could have expected and that I needed to help in a much larger way.”
