Palm Coast residents celebrated their Portuguese heritage June 10, at the Portuguese American Cultural Center, joining groups holding similar events around the world on that day.

Palm Coast Mayor Jon Netts, City Councilman Frank Meeker, Sheriff Donald Fleming and County Commissioner Milissa Holland helped kick off the event by joining club President Tony Amaral in the raising of American and Portuguese flags.

Both national anthems were played and sung by all, including small children who are learning Portuguese at classes taught at the cultural center. Officials joined in at the tasting of traditional food and wine and music.

To become a member, to book an event or for more information about scheduled activities at the club (1200 Palm Harbor Parkway), visit www.palmcoastportuguese club.com or call 446-3910.
