Palm Coast saw a 15% recycling increase in its first week of offering its rewards program, the city announced Monday.

The rewards program is a partnership between the city and Waste Pro.

Many households are earning credits on their rewards program accounts as they continue to recycle glass jars and bottles, aluminum/tin/steel cans, foil, cereal boxes, cardboard, telephone books, junk mail, paper towel rolls, plastic bottles, magazines, office paper, newspaper and paper bags, according to a city news release.

Dianne Torino, contracts and risk manager for the city, said she is pleased to see the increase in recycling.

"Because as recycling increases, there is less trash going into our landfills," Torino said Monday.

Torino said the rewards program will help spark the local economy, too.

"With local businesses participating in the rewards program, the coupons they offer to our residents will promote local spending which helps everyone in our community," she said. "It’s a win-win for everyone."

For registration and account access, go to www.WasteProRewards.com to acquire valuable discounts at many local businesses.

If you didn’t receive your new blue recycle bin, please contact Waste Pro at 586-0800.

Remember, you can also use your original green bins for additional recyclables. Please remember to refrain from using recycle bins for anything other than recyclable materials.
