The Flagler School of Dance competition team recently attended the Starpower Nationals Dance competition, in Orlando, bringing home a first-place score for each of the 14 routines entered. The team qualified for the national competition by taking first in March, at regionals.

All 14 routines also received award plaques for placing in the Top 10 of their age divisions.

The team, which has 41 members, also received a total of 13 trophies, which included eight for first place in the age and style category; three for third place overall in the entire age division; one for second and one for first overall in entire age divisions.

In addition, two routines earned special award recognition ribbons.

“It’s a great reward for all their efforts,” Cindy Miller, director of Flagler School of Dance, said. “It’s a positive experience for them to put in all the time and effort and be successful with the outcome. They have a real team spirit.”

Dancers on the competition team range from ages 8 to 18 and are enrolled in three to seven hours of classes per week in addition to competition practices.

“When they get the results they got, it is a great boost to their self-esteem and inspires them to work hard,” Miller said.

Flagler School of Dance has been training dancers in Flagler County for 34 years, making it the longest running studio in the county.
