The Flagler County Art League will hold an opening reception on Second Saturday, “The Open Art Show,” 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the gallery, 160 Cypress Point Parkway, Suite 207C.

The judged show will feature works from a variety of media, including oil, watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, drawing, pastel, mixed media, 3-D art, sculpture, photography and photographic art.

“We like to leave a few shows without themes to allow artists and photographers to put a variety of work in,” said Bob Carlsen, director of gallery shows and exhibitions at FCAL. “It opens flexibility to enter their newest work.”

In judged shows, all entries that meet art league criteria will be displayed, which is not the case with juried shows. Carlsen remarked that the art league hopes to hold more juried shows in the future because it raises quality of work.

“We’ve come a long way from where we were to where we are, and we should display the best,” he said.
In addition to “The Open Art Show,” in the main gallery, FCAL will also be hosting a plein aire exhibit on the small wall.

The shows will be on display through Feb. 7.
