The City Council on Tuesday approved 15 additional red light cameras for Palm Coast intersections, increasing the citywide total to 36.

Like the vote earlier this month when the City Council approved 11 additional cameras, City Councilman Jason DeLorenzo was the lone member against the plan.

The cameras are installed and maintained by American Traffic Solutions. The cameras could be installed by the end of the year, according to an American Traffic Solutions representative.

According to city documents, ATS is currently analyzing another 16 cameras, which could come before the City Council for approval in the coming weeks. That would increase the citywide total to 52 red light cameras.

“We are only making $700 per camera (per month),” City Manager Jim Landon said. “The idea is the $700 per camera basically pays for our costs.”

Palm Coast resident Louis McCarthy said, “I think we’re getting into the area of Big Brother is watching you.”
