Flagler Beach lifeguards receive donated supplies

Florida Hospital Flagler’s walk-in clinic, Prompt Care, and Physician Sales & Service teamed up and donated an array of medical supplies to the city of Flagler Beach’s Ocean Rescue Services.

Items donated include gloves, face masks, ammonia and alcohol pads, gauze and biohazard containment materials.

“We are so grateful PSS and Prompt Care of Florida Hospital Flagler provided these first aid supplies to Flagler Beach’s Ocean Rescue Services,” said Tom Gillin, recreational director for the city of Flagler Beach. “Our lifeguards are the first responders to beachgoers who fall victim to sudden illnesses and injuries. These donated supplies allow us to continue providing the highest quality of safety services to all visitors to our beautiful beach.”

According to Gillin, the Flagler Beach lifeguards have approximately 10 to 15 minor first aid cases each day.

“These items are essential to what we do,” he said. “The sooner you can get ice on an injury, the better. If someone were to be injured on the beach, our lifeguards can use the donated quick-break ice packs, instead of sending someone to go get ice and then come back. It makes a real difference.”
