+ Former football star Benvenuto arrested
According to WSBTV in Atlanta, former Matanzas High School football star Christian Benvenuto, along with Georgia State football teammate Dexter Moody, have been suspended indefinitely after being arrested by Atlanta police for fighting April 19. A third player, Bo Schlecter, was dismissed from the team.

+ Flagler hunter shoots girlfriend, thought she was a hog
A 52-year-old Brandon woman was accidentally shot in the legs by her boyfriend Saturday night as the two were hog hunting in West Flagler County.

Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies said Steven Egan, 52, heard a noise in the woods and, thinking that was the hog, shot at it. Instead, his girlfriend, Lisa Simmons, also 52, was struck with the .30-caliber rifle bullet, which traveled through both of her upper legs.

Simmons was airlifted to Halifax Medical Center where she underwent surgery Saturday evening.

+ Unemployment rate falls to 12.2%
The February 2012 unemployment rate was 12.2% in Flagler County. State unemployment is 8.6%.

Government (+100 jobs) was the only major sector that gained jobs over the year in Flagler County.

Palm Coast had the second highest growth rate in government jobs, compared to the state’s other metro areas.

+ Sheriff’s Office to take unwanted pills
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28, residents may discard unwanted prescriptions at Publix in Flagler Beach; CVS at 5151 Belle Terre Parkway; or the Flagler County Government Services Building, in Bunnell.

+Public Meetings
Palm Coast City Council — the next workshop is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at the Palm Coast Community Center.

Flagler County Board of County Commissioners — the next town hall meeting with County Commissioner Nate McLaughlin is 6 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Hidden Trails Community Center, at 6108 Mahogany Blvd. in Daytona North.

Flagler County School Board — the next executive session is regular meeting and workshop is 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the Government Services Building.

Flagler County Economic Opportunity Council — the next regular meeting is 10:30 a.m. May 2, at the GSB.
