Kindergartners through fifth-grade students recently participated in Imagine School at Town Center’s first Hispanic Festival. Each student dressed in traditional costumes and introduced the Spanish-speaking countries from around the world. The festival was created by Christina Gilliam, director and teacher of the Spanish program, at Imagine.

“I’m so proud of my students,” Gilliam said. “As a teacher, it’s my goal not only to make sure that the kids learn Spanish but also to make them aware of other countries and cultures. I want to plant a seed in each student to be tolerant, open-minded and respectful of others.”

At the festival, Daytona Salsa Inc. and the dance group, Raices, from Jacksonville, performed traditional dances from different regions in Latin America.

The Hispanic American Club provided all of the flags for the presentation.
