Government job increases dip Flagler's unemployment rate

The February 2012 unemployment rate was 12.2% in Flagler County.

Nonagricultural employment in the Palm Coast metro area (Flagler County) was 19,000 in March 2012, down 100 jobs (-0.5%) over the year. Statewide, employment increased by 1.2% over the same time period.

Government (+100 jobs) was the only major sector that gained jobs over the year. Seven out of 10 major sectors remained unchanged over the year.

Information and leisure and hospitality (-100 jobs each) lost jobs over the year.

Palm Coast had the second highest growth rate in government jobs, compared to the state’s other metro areas.

State unemployment is 8.6%.

Out of a labor force of 282,215 in Flagler and Volusia counties combined, there are 26,593 unemployed residents in the region.
