Flagler Beach United Methodist Church recently welcomed its 14th pastor, the Rev. Jeanine Clontz, and her husband, Vic.  The newlyweds and their six cats (Ally, Dakota, Angel, Rascal, Oliver and Mystic), came to Flagler Beach from First United Methodist Church in Geneva, after Clontz was appointed by the bishop.

Clontz was raised in Orlando and graduated from Evans High School. She earned her associate’s degree in business administration from Valencia Community College, and her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Florida Southern College, in Lakeland.

As the second female pastor in the church’s history, Clontz said she believes women bring a more compassionate side to the ministry.

“I want to be there when someone is sick and in the hospital; I want to be there at births,” Clontz said.

And although it is an increasing trend for women to be in ministry, Clontz said she knows some people still are uncomfortable with the idea.

“Judge me for who I am, not whom I am replacing, or my sex, my gender,” she said. “I bring God’s message, just like anyone else would.”

In addition to encouraging disciples in her congregation, Clontz said she is eager to work with the homeless in the county through Family Promise of Flagler County, the resource center and the food pantry.

“We’re going to be part of changing the world for Jesus Christ, and we’re doing it through our outreach,” Clontz said. “We want to serve, to be the hands and feet. We want to be servants to the outcasts and downtrodden in Flagler Beach.”

Clontz’s vision for Flagler Beach United Methodist is “open hearts, open minds and open doors.” The church holds 8:30 a.m. casual worship and 11 a.m. tradition worship every Sunday, at 1520 S. Daytona Ave., Flagler Beach.
