Family Promise of Flagler County is an interfaith and community response to helping homeless children and their families regain their independence and earn their way to permanent housing. Their local shelter is set to open January 2012.

As of Sept. 26, there are 322 homeless children in Flagler County, according to the Florida Department of Education.

Eleven Churches in Flagler County have joined together through Family Promise to provide shelter, meals and compassion to homeless children and their families. Through the community of congregations working together with existing social service agencies, Family Promise believes they can do what individuals alone cannot.

Participating congregations are Dominion Fellowship. First Church of Palm Coast,
Flagler Beach United Methodist, Grace Tabernacle, Hammock Community Church, Santa Maria del Mar, Palm Coast Seventh Day Adventist, Shepherd of the Coast, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Mark’s by the Sea and St. Mary’s.

Two thirds of the operating cost comes from in-kind services of volunteers. But, Family Promise is also seeking the generosity of churches, businesses, civic organizations and individuals to cover the cost of payroll, transportation, and the cost of operating the family day center.

To raise these needed funds, Family Promise has kicked off the Founding Friends Campaign.
The name of each Friend (individual, couple, family group, congregation, organization, or memorial) will be permanently displayed in The Family Promise Resource Center. To become a Founding Friend, Family Promise must receive the donation by Dec. 15, 2011. A celebration dinner for all Friends is planned for the grand opening.
