Troops will take the battlefield at the Florida Agricultural Museum, 7900 Old Kings Road N., for a two-day Civil War reenactment this weekend, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16.

The Pellicer Creek Raid will involve a number of living history groups from around the southeastern United States. Participating groups representing the Confederate forces will include the 15th Alabama Company B, the 28th Georgia Company K, the 8th Florida Company C, the 2nd Florida Company B, the 3rd Florida Company E, the 10th Tennessee Cavalry, the Morton Light Artillery, and the Milton Light Artillery. The 3rd Rhode Island Artillery, the 17th Connecticut Infantry, 3rd U.S. Colored Cavalry, and the 20th Maine Volunteer Regiment will represent the Union forces.

Approximately 150 infantry and 25 cavalry troops will stage two battles. Battles will take place 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

When the participants are not fighting, their historic camps will be open to the public illustrating other aspects of military life circa 1864.

Only two major battles took place in Florida during the Civil War. However, there were many skirmishes between Union and Confederate troops, often over control of Florida's vast herds of cattle being driven north to feed the Southern armies.

A presentation entitled "The Civil War Along The St. Johns River, 1861-1865" will be given 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 15.

Admission is $8 and $6 for museum members. Children younger than 5 are free. Sensible shoes are strongly recommended.
