Flagler County motorists are encouraged to buckle up as the Sheriff’s Office launches a “Click It or Ticket” campaign for the Thanksgiving holiday.

"Drivers and passengers 18 and over may be cited for failure to properly use a safety restraint," Spokeswoman Debra Johson write via email. "The fine is $116 non-moving infraction for all except children, which is a moving violation that carries a $166 fine. The passenger gets a citation if they are over 18. Only persons under 18 need to wear seatbelt in back seats."

Law enforcement officers statewide are participating in the annual campaign to educate motorists on the importance of seatbelt use for themselves and their passengers.

“We would like everyone to arrive at their destination safely. Seatbelts do save lives. Motorists should obey the speed limits and be patient as they travel through our community,” said Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming.

The campaign kicked off this week and will run through the Thanksgiving holiday on Nov. 24.
