The Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool will close for the 2011-2012 winter season, beginning Thursday, Nov. 24. Swimming activities will begin again on Monday, April 2.

The city made the decision at a September budget meeting to close the pool for the winter. City Manager Jim Landon said the city paid approximately $30,000 in propane costs to heat the pool, and that closing the pool for the winter will save the city approximately $57,400.

The pool is located behind the Wadsworth/Buddy Taylor School complex, on Belle Terre Parkway.

The Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club is also a public pool, but operated by the school district.

Luciana Santangelo, director of Palm Coast Parks and Recreation, said the city has made arrangements with current members and swim teams who use the Frieda Zamba pool during the winter months to use Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club during the closing.

“Current memberships will be transferred to (Belle Terre),” she said. “Dynoswim will meet the usual three days per week, and Daytona Beach Speed will meet their usual five days per week at (Belle Terre),” she said.
