Pioneer Women recognized at luncheon

The Flagler County Branch of the American Association of University Women and the Flagler Historical Society recently honored pioneer women of Flagler County.

Among the honorees was Barbara Joann Burnsed. She is the daughter of Robert Lee and Margaret Ellen Sheppard Burnsed, and she is the wife of James Eustis Crews Jr. Burnsed was employed as a secretary at Wadsworth Lumber Co. in 1969 and was also mayor of Bunnell. Burnsed was a member of the Gen. Joseph Eggleston Johnston Chapter 2317 United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Also honored was Fannie Buckles Barker, who as a child rode on the buckboard with her mother to wash clothes in Haw Creek.

Herschel Clarence King was also honored.

Other honorees were Elsie Chappell, Odell Clegg, Christine Deal, Patsy Durrance, Wilda Hargett, Annie Louise Johnson, Joann King, Marilyn Varn King, Laura Morris, Mardell Sutherland, Joyce Wallace and Catherine Pepper Wilson.
