The following is adapted from a press release from the State Attorney's Office:
Brandon Washington’s reign of terror as the leader of the Bloods gang in Flagler County has come to an end.

After eight days of trial, a jury deliberated for approximately two hours today before finding 24-year-old Washington, guilty as charged, of racketeer influence and corrupt organization (life felony); conspiracy to commit RICO (life felony); second-degree felony murder (first-degree felony punishable by life); burglary of dwelling while armed (first-degree felony punishable by life); and attempted home invasion robbery (second-degree felony).

Judge Raul Zambrano sentenced Washington to four life sentences on counts 1 through 4 and 15 years on count 5.

Under Washington’s rule, 20-year-old gang associate Rashawn Pugh was killed by the intended victim, Sean Christopher Adams, during an attempted Palm Coast home invasion by the Bloods gang in 2007.

State Attorney R.J. Larizza stated: “The trial was successful because of extensive investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.”

He added: “Because of the partnership between the State Attorney’s Office, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Flagler County is a safer place to live and raise a family.”

Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming was pleased with the verdict. “Brandon Washington has been a plague on the Flagler County community. His criminal actions resulted not only in loss of property, but more importantly a loss of a life … It will be fitting for him to spend the rest of his life behind bars.”

The case was tried by Assistant State Attorneys Jason Lewis and Jennifer Dunton before Judge Zambrano.
