According to an on-air statement by Ayers, WNZF was awarded the Limbaugh contract “because no listenable radio signals served” the area. WNDB, a Daytona Beach affiliate, however, protested, claiming that WNZF’s signal extends into Volusia, ultimately stealing the station’s listenership.

“People in Flagler County should not be denied,” Ayers said. “We all find Rush’s termination disappointing.”

+ Smoke testing in B-section
Beginning May 23 and extending through May 31, Palm Coast will be smoke-testing the sanitary sewer lines on streets beginning with the letters Bel, Bee, Bea, Ben, Bec, Bev, Bou, Bot, Bow, Boy, Bol, Bon, Bos, Box and Bob.

By inserting an odorless smoke into the sewer system, the test checks for pipe leaks, breaks and defects. Recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the smoke will only enter homes or businesses if there is a presence of defective plumbing or dried sink traps/floor drains. The test smoke leaves no residuals or stains, and has no effect on plants or animals.

Prior to testing, the city asks that area residents/businesses pour two gallons of water in seldom-used sinks or flood drains to prevent gases from entering the premises. If smoke enters, residents should leave the building and notify testing crews or call the city. Smoke should only affect homes for approximately 15 minutes.

If anyone in tested buildings suffer from a heart condition, asthma, emphysema or other respiratory conditions and are planning to stay inside during testing, notify the city — 986-2371.

After testing, property owners will be notified; residents are responsible for any corrections to their sewer system.
