The following is the latest update from www.FlaglerEmergency.com:

Flagler County, along with the Division of Forestry, continues to work and monitor a number of wildfires. The largest and most active fires are located northwest of Espanola and also near Korona. U.S. 1 may face occasional closures due to smoke in the area of Korona.

Espanola Fire

The Espanola Fire is located a few miles northwest of Espanola, or about 7 miles west of Palm Coast. This fire has burned well over 500 acres and continues to grow toward the west.

A new GPS track of the fire will be done today, and that will give us an update on acreage. Crews will be conducting back burns on this fire, and this will increase smoke in the area. This fire is in a rural area of the county and poses no threats to populated areas at this time; however, it is producing a large smoke plume that will be easily seen across the county.

Two other smaller fires are also burning in rural northwest Flagler County and are contained.

White Eagle Fire

The fire near Korona is called the White Eagle Fire, and it has burned about 120 acres between Seminole Woods Parkway and Korona. There are lines around this fire, and it is 50% contained.

This is the closest fire to a populated area, and fire crews are on scene. At this time, this fire poses no immediate threats, but persons in the area should remain alert as things can change very rapidly. This fire is still burning within the lines and may produce a lot of smoke in the area. U.S. 1 may experience occasional closures due to smoke in the area. Fire crews may be conduct back burns to help contain the fire.

A new fire broke out yesterday off Haw Creek Road but was quickly contained.

One additional fire was burning near County Road 304 west of U.S. 1 and is also contained. There were also 10 other smaller fires being monitored by fire crews throughout the county that were fully contained.

Fire crews from various agencies including Division of Forestry, Flagler County Public Works, Palm Coast, Bunnell and Flagler Beach as well as FireFlight are being deployed to the various fires as needed to conduct suppression activities. Flagler County Emergency Management is providing logistical support and public information as needed.
