In a 3-2 vote, the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners rejected Enterprise Flagler’s restructuring plan, presented by co-president (and Florida Hospital Flagler president) David Ottati.

“Enterprise Flagler doesn’t create jobs; it creates an atmosphere for economic expansion,” Ottati told the board. Part of the reason for the public’s apparent lack of confidence in the organization, he said, was because many do not understand its function — not because it’s been ineffective.

Ottati then presented a plan, which included larger private and public funding contributions in return for more clearly defined deliverables and a higher level of accountability and transparency.

The board wasn’t sold.

“I would like to start over. I would like an entirely new organization … I would like to request applications from the entire (community, for participation on the board),” chairman Alan Peterson said.

Commissioner Barbara Revels disagreed, both that the public didn’t believe in Enterprise Flagler, and that dissolving the organization was prudent.

Commissioner George Hanns stated that change isn’t always better.

Nate McLaughlin and Milissa Holland both supported looking elsewhere for an alternative.

The Enterprise Flagler executive board will regroup before deciding its next move, Ottati said. It will most likely not approach the cities with the same proposal.
