AACS celebrates members' 80th birthdays

During a recent review of its membership rolls, the African American Cultural Society was pleasantly surprised to discover that one-fifth of the organization’s 300-plus members had reached their 80th birthdays and, of that number, several had exceeded or were more than half-way to the next milestone, 90.

Center administrator Diana McKie-Robinson, AACS President Edmund G. Pinto Jr. and the executive board hosted a celebration of these members with a collective birthday party Saturday, July 23.

The honored members were Randolph Arthur, Zita Barnes, Gloria Benjamin, Roy Benjamin, Gertrude Blackwell, Walter Boone, Doris Boyd, Elizabeth Brennan, Erma Brooks, Robert Brooks, Muriel Carey, Courtland Coke, Oliver Davis, Feloteo DeLaVega, Jacob Emanuel, Mary Francis, Violet Gordon, Hugo Hendricks, Berthrum Hinds, Leroy Hutchinson, Verna Jackson, Thelma Jordan, Victor Jordan, Martha Julius, Vincent Julius, William Lancaster, Ernestine Logan, Clarence Mauge, William Merritt, Hazel Mills, John Mills, Walter Morris, Ellen Parker, Thomas Pincham, Ivy Scott, James Sharpe, Doris Sheppard, William Skinner, Kate Solomon, Gladys Spann, Johnie Spann, James Wheeleer, Jeanette Wheeleer, Jerome Williams and Emma Wilson.
