First-time jobless applications in Florida dropped slightly from the prior week, according to U.S. Department of Labor figures released Thursday.
The department estimated 5,224 initial unemployment applications were filed in Florida last week, down from a revised count of 5,450 for the week ending March 14.
The state has averaged 5,436 new claims a week since mid-November. Over the past four weeks, the weekly average is now 5,350.
Florida’s jobless rate stands at 4.3 percent, reflecting mid-December conditions. The January figures are scheduled to be released on April 8, with the February numbers out on April 17.
Nationally, with the jobless rate at 4.4 percent, 210,000 claims were filed last week, up from an unrevised count of 215,000 for the week ending March 14.
