In light of unsanctioned Spring Break events on the beachside, the Ormond Beach Police Department is increasing enforcement and penalties for violations this weekend.

A Special Event Zone will go into effect at noon on March 20, OBPD announced on its Facebook page. The zone encompasses the southern incorporated limits of the City of Ormond beach from Riverside Drive east to A1A, north on A1A to Sandcastle Drive, west on Sandcastle Drive to John Anderson Drive, south through State Road 40 (Granada Boulevard), and from Riverside Drive to the southern city limits on the beachside.

The zone also includes the Granada Boulevard corridor between A1A and U.S. 1.

OBPD states the unsanctioned/pop-up event is expected to disrupt traffic flow.

"Criminal and civil laws will be strictly enforced in the Special Event Zone," OBPD stated. "There will be zero tolerance for violations. It is a traffic violation to operate or amplify sound from any device in a vehicle that is plainly audible at a distance of 25 feet or more."

While the zone is in effect:

  • Any person who commits a crime in the Special Event Zone is subject to arrest.
  • Traffic violations will result in doubled fines.
  • Vehicles involved in infractions or violations will be impounded for up to 72 hours, with fees payable upon release.

OBPD states that the Special Event Zone will remains in effect "as long as necessary to ensure public safety and will be lifted once the unpermitted event dissipates." Promoters or organizers of the unsanctioned event are liable for all costs related to enforcement, including supplemental law enforcement and emergency services.
