All 18 holes will become a par 3 at the sixth annual Masters Par 3 Tournament on March 28 at Pine Lakes Golf Club. The event is sponsored by the Pine Lakes Men’s golf Association.
Entry fee is $75 per person, $25 plus cart fee for men’s golf association members and $25 for men’s golf association gold members. There will be a 9 a.m. shot gun start. Flagler Palm Coast’s boys weightlifting team won its third tournament in three weeks. The Bulldogs won the Suwannee Inivitational on March 13, edging host Suwannee High of Live Oak 46-44. The three-week run wasn’t easy, FPC coach Duane Hagstrom said.
“The guys showed up, trusted the process and continued to improve,” Hagstrom said, noting that different lifters stepped up each week.”
The Bulldogs will host the Five Star Conference Tournament on March 25.
Scott Crooke, who has been the Matanzas girls soccer coach for the past 5½ seasons, has stepped down.
“It was certainly a tough decision,” Crooke said. “I’ve had an amazin time being a small part of the program. [I’m] going to dedicate some mor etime to family and career aspirations.”
Crooke is a dean at Indian Trails Middle School. His daughter, Adasyn, is a freshman at Flagler Palm Coast and played on the Bulldogs’ JV soccer team this year.
The Pirates’ best season under Crooke was in 2023-24 when they went 11-4-1. This season Matanzas snapped a 14-game losing streak to FPC with a 1-1 tie on Jan. 15.
Father Lopez’s Lucy Fulton earned a silver medal and two bronze medals at the Lake Mary Invitational track and field meet on March 14. Fulton placed second in the 3,200 meters with a time of 13:12 and third in the 1,600 in 5:54. She was also ran anchor leg on the third-place 4x800 relay team. The Green Wave’s girls 4x400 relay also placed third. Caroline Curtis and Izy Kosko ran on both relays. Kosko was also fourth in high jump.
Matanzas also brought athletes to Lake Mary with Kevin Gilpin placing third in the boys 400 (51.61 seconds), Enzo McGovern placing second in the 1,600 (4:47.71) and Brant Tarsitano placing second in the 3,200 (10:02.02), Jayden McCoy placing second in triple jump (12.97 meters) and the 4x400 relay (Gilpin, Jez McCoy, Matt Ciardi and Jayden McCoy) also placing second in 3:35.88.
