Saturday, March 14, was a special day for Joey Pagan and his family. Joey, who is wheel-chair bound, received a new adaptive bicycle through Make-A-Wish.
Realty Executives Oceanside of Palm Coast, which raised $30,000 for Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida through the third annual Bool-ing For Wishes Halloween-themed bowling fundraiser last October, presented the Pagan family with the bike at a celebration held at Palm Coast Community Center.
Jon Goncalves, owner of Palm Coast Bicycle Trail Shop, assembled the bike for Joey, customizing it with lights and bells and a water bottle. Goncalves added a gift card from the shop so the family can also get a helmet and any other accessory Joey might need.
“We were honored to be a part of this,” said Goncalves, who closed his shop for a short time Saturday, so he could deliver the bike. “We love doing things for the community, and this was right up our alley. And we hope he enjoys the bike.”
Joey’s parents, Danny and Kim Pagan, said Joey had a bike at school about a year and half ago. Joey, who has cerebral palsy and severe epilepsy is not attending school right now because of his seizures, his parents said.
“Right now, all he has is his wheelchair to get around, so this bike is a big deal,” Danny said.
Realty Executives Oceanside owners Bruce and Shannon Vinnick said their office does various montlhy fundraisers, but Make-A-Wish is especially dear to their hearts.
“Make-A-Wish has been truly special in our community outreach for a long time,” Shannon Vinnick said during the presentation.

“Today, we get to see the impact of that support firsthand, and that is incredibly special,” Bruce Vinnick said. “We want to celebrate Joey and the entire Pagan family. This moment is about you, and we are so grateful to be a part of it. Joey, here's your wish.”
Goncalves then wheeled in the bike to the applause of family, friends, community members and Boo-ling for Wishes volunteers. Palm Coast Vice Mayor Theresa Carli Pontieri and Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Joe Barile also attended the celebration.
Jillian Wilson, development and community engagement coordinator for Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida, thanked Realty Executives Oceanside for its years-long partnership with Make-A-Wish.
“This wouldn’t be possible without them,” Wilson said. “They really were passionate about wanting to be a part of a local wish. So, I really hope that Joey enjoys the bike and that your family feels the love and support from the community and from Make-A-Wish and from Realty Executives Oceanside.”
Pontieri and Barile also participated in last year’s Boo-ling for Wishes event at Palm Coast Lanes.
“Boo-ling for Wishes was so much fun, and for the first time in my life I got to see a T. rex bowl,” Pontieri said. “It’s been an honor to be a part of this. It shows just how generous and caring this community truly is. Palm Coast is filled with people who show up for one another day after day and today is just another example of that.
“This bike isn't just about getting from one place to another,” Pontieri added. “It's about freedom, adventure and having a lot of fun along the way.”
Danny Pagan, who works in Flagler Schools’ transportation department, thanked Bruce and Shnnon Vinnick, the Make-A-Wish family and everyone in attendance for making Joey’s wish a reality.
“I know we're gonna love it,” he said.
Joey’s parents and older siblings then helped secure Joey onto the bike and led him on his first spin on the new wheels.
