Seabreeze boys, Mainland girls place second at Volusia-Flagler Freshman-Sophomore track meet

Flagler Palm Coast placed third and Mainland fourth in the boys standings. Father Lopez was fifth among girls teams.

Seabreeze sophomores Aidan O'Brien and Alex Schargen each won two individual events to help the Sandcrabs' boys team finish second at the Volusia-Flagler Freshman-Sophomore Track and Field Championships on Wednesday, March 11, at Spruce Creek High School.

O'Brien won the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.0 seconds and 22.55 seconds, respectively. Schargen won the 110 and 400 hurdles with times of 16.19 seconds and 59.89 seconds, respectively. Both times were personal records for Schargen.

Mainland sophomore Jae'lyn Thompson won the boys high jump with a PR leap of 5 feet,11.5 inches. Thompson was also a member of two winning relay teams: the 4x400 with Maddox Howe, Faunte Stubbs and Khristian Williams in 3:39.41 and the 4x800 with Trevor Howe, Elijah Griggs and Maddox Howe in 9:06.09.

Other boys winners included FPC sophomore Gage Herndon in the 400 (52.14), Seabreeze's Barrett Jones in 1,600 (4:53.25), FPC freshman Zach Peterson in the 3,200 (11:04.74, a PR), Seabreeze freshman Jacob McBroom in the long jump (20 feet, 8.5 inches) and Matanzas sophomore Jayden McCoy in the triple jump (44-11.75).

In the girls events, Mainland freshman Tylar Darius won both the 100 and 400 hurdles with PR times of 13.02 and 1:05.08, respectively. Mainland freshman Makayla Doe won high jump (4 feet, 6 inches, a PR) and triple jump (33 feet, 8 inches). Father Lopez freshman Emma Loach won shot put with a PR throw of 23 feet, 2.5 inches.

Spruce Creek won both the boys and girls titles. FPC's boys were third, while Mainland's boys were fourth among 10 teams. Mainland's girls placed second, while Father Lopez was fifth among eight teams.
