Shoplifting. A Palm Coast man was caught stealing a $200 pair of headphones because he left his debit card on the counter.
The suspect initially walked into the video game store to sell his used came console controller. When the store employee told the suspect he needed his identification on him, the suspect went out to his truck to grab it, but left his debit card on the table, according to an arrest report.
The employee went into the back of the store and when the suspect returned to a seemingly empty store, he grabbed a $199 pair of headphones from the shelf and took off, the report said. Because the store had security cameras and the debit card, Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to quickly track the man down to his home.
The suspect denied stealing anything initially, but then announced he had to steal it so he could make “some more money.”
The man was taken to the county jail.
10:24 p.m. — 100 block of Lehigh Drive
Burglary. A Flagler Beach mechanic is under arrest for trying to take a boat mechanic’s tools in the dead of night.
A boat mechanic’s shop alarm sounded after 10 p.m. that night, alerting Sheriff’s Office deputies of a suspected crime in progress.
When deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect was nowhere to be seen, but the back door had been kicked open and wiring pulled out of the wall, an estimated $600 in damages. Security footage shows a man jumped onto the shop's roof from a neighboring rooftop, before falling down and landing on one of the stored boats.
The suspect got up though and began searching through the shipping containers located on the lot before kicking open the boat mechanic shop's door and later ripping out the wiring. The man fled the scene through neighboring yards before deputies arrived, and nothing seemed to be missing, according to an arrest report.
Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to identify the suspect from a bystander at a local convenience store, and arrested the man at his own mechanic shop. He was taken to the county jail.
