Missing taxes

3:03 p.m. — 400 block of North U.S. 1, Ormond Beach

Fraud. A local restaurant owner called police after he received a notice from the IRS about payroll taxes owed dating back to the first quarter of 2025.

The restaurant owner told police he had contracted an accountant 10 years ago for general bookkeeping services, including tax filing, according to an incident report. He would forward the payroll tax funds to the accountant, who was then responsible for submitting the funds to the IRS.

Then, he received a notice stating he owed over $41,000 in delinquent payroll taxes. The restaurant owner had already paid these to the accountant, whom he tried to contact several times, receiving responses that she was unavailable or "in a meeting," according to the incident report. He later got an email from his accountant stating it was her intention "to get this paid."

Police are continuing to investigate.

One minor crack

7:06 p.m. — 800 block of West River Oak Drive, Ormond Beach

Criminal mischief. Three young adults were walking home when a pickup truck sped past them. They told the driver to slow down on the residential street.

In response, the driver hurled profanities at them and ran over one of their skateboards. Multiple times, according to an incident report.

The owner of the skateboard — a 23-year-old Ormond Beach man — said they got into a verbal altercation due to the profane language used. The three adults had been standing on the sidewalk at the time of the incident, with the skateboard about 30 feet away on the road. The skateboard's owner wished to pursue charges.

Police located the skateboard and found it had "a minor crack in the center." The report also noted that the skateboard had "extensive prior damage." There were also no signs of aggressive driving on the grass, the report stated.

No charges were filed.
