One Daytona launched the Summer Soundtrack Series with a special three concert weekend on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 4-6, at Victory Circle, finishing off with '80s tribute band, The Spazmatics.
The Spazmatics, a nationally touring band, delivered a high-energy performance and performed '80s hits with slapstick humor thrown in. They dressed in thick nerd glasses, pocket protectors, and high-waisted plaid pants with suspenders.
The band had three generations of audience members dancing and singing. Their concert was a part of the special extended opening weekend.
Russell Dorvee, senior events and planning manager at One Daytona, said they created the series to get more people to come out from the local community to experience One Daytona.
“We hope it will bring people out with their friends and family to experience the property and have fun," Dorvee said.
The summer-long series will feature concerts each Thursday and Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m. through the month of August.
Thursday night concerts will feature the music of regional standout Jon Cabrera, of New Smyrna Beach. Cabrera is known for blending acoustic guitar, beatboxing, live looping and audience singalongs pedal as a part of his show.
“Jon will bring his unplugged series and be interactive with the crowd,” Dorvee said.
Friday nights concerts will feature a Piano bar style concert from Blake Guyer.
“Blake is a talented musician out of Orlando,” Dorvee said. “He will be taking requests from the audience. You can pick any song that you like. He’s also super interactive with the crowd."
Splashpad Saturdays will be from 12-3 p.m. each Saturday and will feature a live DJ and games while the splash pad is in full operation.
“It’s something different every week," Dorvee said. "You can expect a different theme, different songs. It’s not the same experience every week. Expect something different each time you come out."
In case of inclement weather, concerts will be held inside The Retreat at Victory Circle.
