New Jersey man arrested after found trespassing inside condemned Ormond Beach hotel

Jan. 19

Foot chase

9:56 p.m. — 1500 block of North U.S. 1, Ormond Beach

Resisting officer without violence. A 25-year-old Ormond Beach man was arrested after he led officers on a pursuit on foot that ended at a local waffle restaurant. 

According to his arrest report, the man had an extraditable felony warrant out of New York. He was seen walking into a local dollar store and police approached him upon his exit. The man resisted and ran toward the waffle restaurant, where officers saw him jump a fence and take off toward the highway.

As officers were canvassing the area, the man reappeared at the parking lot of the waffle restaurant and surrendered himself. He was taken to jail.

Urbex arrest

9:49 a.m. — 700 block of South Atlantic Avenue, Ormond Beach

Resisting officer without violence. Police arrested a 20-year-old man from New Jersey who was found inside a condemned hotel.

Police report that an officer noticed a broken window on the hotel's property and he and his partner decided to scan it for signs of intrusion. They saw the man on the and attempted to confront him, but the man took off, disregarding police's commands to stop.

The man was eventually apprehended at a nearby hotel — one still in business. He told police that he had been exploring the condemned hotel when he saw the officers and ran away to try and evade them. He was taken to jail.
