Four Flagler County School District students performed with the Florida Music Education Association's All-State Bands on Jan. 17 at the Tampa Convention Center.
Indian Trails Middle School students Emily Rhee (clarinet) and Joshua Palacious (trombone) were selected to the All-State Middle School Band. Flagler Palm Coast's Oliver Esquival-Novak (alto saxophone) and Matanzas' George Biedenback (trombone) were selected to the All-State High School Band.
The student musicians were selected through a competitive audition process in September.
Matanzas Band Director Ryan Schulz served as coordinator of the High School Honors Band coordinating with more than 100 schools across Florida to assemble an ensemble of approximately 120 students.
The annual Flagler All-County Band concert is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Matanzas High School Pirate Theater. Bernie Hendricks, president-elect of the FMEA, and Amy Wacksman, Orange County music educator, will conduct student ensembles at the event and provide professional development for Flagler County band directors throughout the weekend.
