The Palm Coast Utility Department recently welcomed Scout Troop 281 for an educational tour of Water Treatment Plant 3 and Wastewater Treatment Plant 2, helping the scouts complete key requirements toward their Environmental Science and Sustainability merit badges.

The visit provided scouts with an inside look at how drinking water is treated, how wastewater is safely processed and how the city's utility systems protect public health and the environment. Twenty-three scouts participated. Troop Leader Tracy Rivera praised the experience, saying it was “very in-depth, interesting and a great example of career opportunities.”

Wastewater Utility Systems Chief Operator Mike Baldwin said, “The kids were well behaved and had some good questions. Hopefully, they can all achieve those merit badges and any other goals they have set.”

The Utility Department routinely hosts tours of its water and wastewater facilities for the public. They are posted at palmcoast.gov/events when they become available for registration.
