The Matanzas High School National Honor Society has completed its senior legacy project — designing and painting a designated "Senior of the Month" parking spot to recognize student achievement.
The first person who will get to use that parking spot is Matanas Senior of the Month Megan Rhee.
Rhee received her AICE Diploma and she will graduate with both her high school diploma and an associate’s degree from Daytona State College. She has earned numerous honors, including AICE Marine Science Student of the Month, AP Statistics Student of the Month, Sunshine Scholar Alternate for Flagler County, Volusia/Flagler Athlete of the Week and Straight A Honor Roll from 2022–2025.

Rhee is co-captain of the cross country team, president of the National Honor Society, vice president of Future Problem Solvers. She is also deeply involved in community service through her church, aerial arts and her work at Hammock Beach Resort in the recreation department.
The Matanzas Pirate Nation Showcase Night is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 7:30 on Feb. 5, while the Flagler Palm Coast Showcase will be 5 p.m. to 6:30 on Feb. 10.
Both showcases will give incoming ninth graders and other new students an opportunity to explore the schools’ programs of study, clubs and athletics and learn about the course selection process.
Superintendent LaShakia Moore recommends that incoming high school students and their families visit both showcases to make an informed decision.
Eighth graders will also get chance to explore careers and programs of study at the middle school career fairs. The Indian Trails Middle School Career Fair will be Jan. 20 at 8:30 to 10 a.m. for students and 10:15 to 11 a.m. for parents. The Buddy Taylor Middle School Career Fair will be Jan. 30 at 8:15 a.m. for students and 9:10 a.m. to 9:55 for parents.
The fairs will include high school programs of study options and more than 60 representatives of local government, industry and business.

Flagler Schools Teachers of the Year received furniture to upgrade their workspaces through Meteor Education and the Flagler County Education Foundation.
Kingston Bass, a third grader at Rymfire Elementary School, received the elementary school-level Great Kids Award from the Flagler county Sheriff’s Office. According to the SRDs and teachers who nominated him, Bass “always tries his best and is an active participant in daily lessons. He works hard to maintain good grades and is an excellent student who sets a terrific example for his fellow classmates.”
