Cristy B Comedy Club is ready to take the stage by storm at its new home in Daytona Beach.
Located at 242 S. Beach St., Suite 100, owner Cristy Barrick’s new club location opened its doors on Jan. 9 with a red carpet ribbon cutting ceremony. Barrick said it may sound crazy to most people to open a comedy club, but for her, this is what she’s meant to do.
“I'm betting on me,” she said. “It's a huge risk, but this is my passion, it’s what I've been doing, and I know that this is where I need to be in my life.”
Barrick has over 12 years of experience as a comedian and club owner and has a following of VIP guests in the area around Daytona Beach. Previously, her club was located in Palm Coast, and as much as she loves the city, Barrick said she needed to be in a space with more vacationers and traffic.
“What I'm doing needs to be in a bigger city,” Barrick said. “Palm Coast, my baby club, I’m very grateful. I did great there. It was wonderful. But I needed to expand and grow my business.”
The venue is owned by Patti Miracle, who used to run a comedy club in Suite 100 for several years before it closed down after the pandemic. Miracle said she has known Barrick since the comedian performed at her club.
Barrick is a comic, Miracle said, and she has a whole network of comedians she works with. WIth the work the city has done to renovate downtown and Beach Street in Daytona Beach, she said, it was a good time to try and reopen the club.
“I said, ‘I think it's a good time for you to come back and open it and try it’. So she did,” Miracle said. “It was a beautiful space, and she came in and sparkled it up like she does. I'm really excited she's here, and I think it'll be a really strong asset to Beach Street.”
The ribbon cutting was hosted by the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce and attended by local residents, business owners and some elected officials. Lori McMullin, director of business development with the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, said it’s important to highlight new businesses like Cristy B’s Comedy Club for locals and visitors to enjoy.
“If we don't let people know what we have going on,” McMullin said, “they're not going to realize that we have something incredible right in our backyard, and that you don't have to necessarily travel outside of the area to take part in things that you really love to do.”
McMullin said the chamber hosts ribbon cuttings for members with new businesses, new business locations, grand re-openings after renovations and more. The idea, she said, is to help with the publicity and promotion to the public.
“We’re here to help everybody with whatever they need,” she said. “We want to make sure that we can shine the light on their day, their moment, and help to catapult them to more success.”
The Cristy B Comedy Club will host a mixture of local talent and more celebrity names. Barrick said she loves working with local talent and giving them a space to work out their craft.
It can be stressful work running a comedy club, she said, shows need a lot of preparation and close attention. But when the show is on and the audience is laughing, they’re forgetting any problems they may have, she said.
“It's like an orchestra,” Barrick said. “It's a beautiful, beautiful thing to be in a room full of people laughing and having a good time.”
